Property History
Magnolia is one of Mathews, Virginia's earliest homes. The land traces its beginning back to a patent in 1651 to Philip Hunley. Over the years, the Colonial 2 1/2 story early planter's house has been beautifully renovated and enhanced to blend historical elements with modern conveniences. An 18th century schoolhouse from the property was added to the home and today serves as a charming wing with first floor bedroom/study below and studio above. The river room and kitchen addition is a stunning focal point of the home offering breathtaking sunset views across the river and the joy of tranquil breezes in the evening. Magnolia has loblolly pine floors in the oldest part of the house and heart pine floors in the remainder.

Dependencies include guest house with 1 bedroom, 1 bath, kitchen, front room and media room, 2.5-bay carriage house, barn with large open area and 2 separate equine stalls, paddock and fenced pasture, and reproduction dairy house for a generator.

Property Description
Magnolia is situated on the pristine East River, a tributary of the Mobjack Bay off the lower Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. The property consists of approximately 51 acres with about 1,100 feet of river frontage. The grounds are graced with ancient magnolias, a spring fed pond and two deep water boat slips. Magnolia was featured on the historic Virginia Garden Week Tour in 2013. The property is "not" in conservation easement.
