General Email Newsletter  -  Vol. IV   Issue 3

Greetings Preservationists,

Happy Spring!  We have returned from a cultural photo-gathering trip to the Eastern United States, by way of Amtrak's Empire Builder (Portland, OR to Chicago, IL).  Look for photos of Chicago, IL: Rochester, NY; Harper's Ferry, WV; Washington, DC; as well as train station's across the Western United States and other historic places and structures along the way.  Photos will be added soon to our "Historic Photo Gallery".

In addition, we are beginning a major overhaul of our "Preservation Businesses, Products & Services" directory.  This should be complete soon and will greatly improve and expand this already useful tool - look for an announcement in next month's newsletter.  For information about listing your business/service, please click here.

Also, we are very excited about a new partnership which will provide great articles and other regular content each month for use by you, the preservation community!  We are partnering with a prominent, local restoration expert for this new section of the website, and look forward to sharing regular articles demonstrating restoration techniques, addressing concerns of those who own historic homes or are looking to purchase a historic home, and answering frequently asked questions from historic homeowners.  Look for a formal announcement in the coming months!

In other news:

  • Historic Real Estate resource launched - www.HistoricForSale.com:
We are very happy to announce the launch of our new partner historic real estate website, www.HistoricForSale.com .  The new site focuses solely on historic real estate and provides resources for those selling historic homes and those looking to purchase historic homes, as well as those searching for agents who specialize in historic real estate.  HistoricForSale.com is a separate website that works closely with PreservationDirectory.com's current historic real estate directory to maximize exposure for the wonderful historic homes for sale, as well as our directory of real estate agents who specialize in historic real estate.

Both websites share the same database, allowing HistoricForSale.com to tap into the vast network established over the last 10 years by PreservationDirectory.comHistoricForSale.com features a professional design, easy-to-use interface, 24/7 member area for editing/tracking listings, featured property area, and much more. In addition, those seeking to list on either site will have the option of listing, for a small additional fee, on both websites.  To do this, simply add a listing to either website - you will then be able to check a box on the submit form, which will automatically add your listing to both sites.

NEW FOR BOTH SITES - Instant access to listings!  We have just modified both websites so that now listings are added INSTANTLY upon submitting.  In the past, listings were added within 1-2 hours of being submitted, but we have now made this an instant process.  Listings are immediately available, with the exception of those paying by check or for non-profit listings.  Note, listings are still reviewed for spelling and to ensure that everything looks proper.

For more information about listing a property on HistoricForSale.com (as well as our additional listing service on PreservationDirectory.com), please go to   http://www.historicforsale.com/HistoricRealEstate/PropertyListingInformation.aspx .

For more information about HistoricForSale.com , adding properties to either/both sites , to add your agent profile to our " Historic Real Estate Agent " directory, or for any other questions, please contact us at info@preservationdirectory.com or by phone at 503-223-4939

Great Books Added to the Preservation Bookstore:
Many great new books, as well as the 2nd edition of a "must have" book (Norman Tyler's "Historic Preservation") have been added to the Preservation Bookstore in the last month.  More information and a link to the books can be found below.

  • Preservation Employment Service Launched:
In response to the tightening job market in the historic and cultural resource preservation fields, PreservationDirectory.com has launched a new employment email alert service and blog.  After signing up for the service, interested job seekers will receive bi-weekly email notifications of recently posted jobs in preservation-related fields. Postings include internships and employment opportunities in historic preservation, cultural resource management, museum jobs, architecture, and building restoration.

To sign-up for the email alert service click here , then enter your email address and click "subscribe" ( emails are never shared with any 3rd party ).
