Executive Director - Raton, New Mexico MainStreet Program (Raton, NM)

Raton MainStreet, Inc. seeks a dynamic, experienced MainStreet Executive Director to lead its downtown revitalization effort in close conjunction with its Board of Directors.  This four-year old MainStreet organization is located in Raton, NM, a community of 6,500, situated in the highlands of sunny northeastern New Mexico.  Raton MainStreet is an official New Mexico MainStreet organization and is a nationally-accredited MainStreet program.

Education and Job Experience Qualifications

College degree and/or experience in one or more of the following areas preferred:  community economic development, historic preservation, public relations, city planning, non-profit admin-istration, finance, marketing, and/or small business development.  MainStreet experience a plus.

 Job Description

Coordinates all project activities within the downtown revitalization program to promote historic preservation and community economic development.

 Job Responsibilities

  • Document all physical changes in the downtown area, retaining information on job creation and business retention, and submitting information to the New Mexico MainStreet program on a regular basis.
  • Develop strategies for downtown economic development which include creating an annual action plan with the committees and the Board of Directors.
  • Assist the Board of Directors in overseeing completion of the annual action plan.
  • Recruit, coordinate, and supervise active volunteer force.
  • Develop and coordinate public awareness and education programs.
  • Plan and coordinate special events to enhance downtown revitalization.
  • Apply for and manage grants.
  • Attend state, regional, and national training/conferences to stay current with trends,
  • Help build strong, productive working relationships with appropriate public agencies at the local, regional, state, and national levels.
  • Help build strong, productive working relationships with downtown business owners, tenants, and other program supporters.
  • Development marketing plan to build awareness and membership.
  • Participate in appropriate community organizations.
  • Serve as the Shuler Theater Coordinator, Raton City Parade Marshall, and Raton City Public Events Coordinator.
  • Perform all other duties as may be assigned to meet organizational needs.

 Job Requirements

  • Self-starter, well organized, multi-tasker, entrepreneurial, energetic, and a team player.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Familiarity with social media (e.g. Facebook, Twitter, etc.) preferred
  • Ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher preferred.
