The National Trust for Historic Preservation now seeks a President to lead the organization, its mission, and the movement to save America's diverse historic places and revitalize its communities.

Duties:
Reporting to and working with the Board of Trustees, the President has responsibility and is accountable for managing the strategic, programmatic, and financial operations of the organization.
The President will:
- Partner with the Trustees to craft a vision, set a strategy, and communicate the Trust's mission to wide audiences of stakeholders in order to inspire and motivate its constituencies to achieve and build upon the strategic ambitions of the organization;
- Provide intellectual leadership and foster an entrepreneurial environment of creativity and innovation;
- Increase the visibility of the Trust and relevance of the preservation movement across a range of constituencies including government, business and civic leadership, and the general public;
- Utilize and build upon the technological framework the Trust has developed to date, with the objective of establishing a web-based series of services and communication tools to move the preservation movement into a contemporary, evolving, flexible and mobile leadership network;
- Lead the Trust in prioritizing, implementing and enhancing its education programs, advocacy and resources in order to increase influence of the organization and its policies among government decision-makers;
- Drive development amongst a diverse constituency to include restricted and unrestricted funds from foundations and corporations, and highly committed individual donors for annual, major, and campaign gifts;
- Ensure the programs, regional offices, and historic sites reach out to diverse constituencies and partners to save the historic places that reflect the broad American experience;
- Advance the Trust's mandate and visibility in driving economic and healthy community development in Main Street communities, small towns, and inner cities;
- Galvanize the potential of a decentralized organization with its highly capable staff, regional offices, subsidiaries, members, and volunteers, and;
- Ensure that all activities and programs meet the highest standards of ethics and transparency and are aligned with the National Trust for Historic Preservation's values.
Qualifications: The National Trust for Historic Preservation is seeking a visionary leader of unquestioned operational excellence, intellectual breadth, convening power, and practical experience with the non-profit, government and business sectors. S/he will provide the capacity for strategic vision and partnership that will enable the organization to evolve itself and the preservation movement. S/he will have the capacity to build constructive dialogue and collaboration among people and across organizational structures, while honoring the history of, and respecting and promoting the culture and values of, the Trust.
The ideal candidate will have the capacity to manage a large, decentralized and complex organization. S/he will have experience working closely with a board, staff, and other constituents to achieve ambitious goals in a fiscally responsible manner. S/he will have outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to represent the Trust effectively with a diversity of audiences.
The ideal candidate will be nationally literate so as to work effectively in a diversity of states and cultures to build effective partnerships, raise funds and advocate on behalf of the Trust's core mission in local and national arenas. As such, s/he will bring a sophisticated understanding of U.S. policy environments. The ideal candidate will possess the ability to gain the confidence of governments, NGOs, business leaders, and funders, and the ability to attract the best talent to the Trust.
