Assist Director of Museum Collections at the National Trust and Director of Chesterwood with collections care and management of Daniel Chester French's work and other collections at Chesterwood.

Duties:

  • Assist with collection management projects at Chesterwood involved in inventory, research, accessioning, cataloguing, photographing and deaccessioning of fine arts and decorative arts collections.
  • Answer correspondence relating to the life and art of Daniel Chester French and his family as well as Chesterwood's fine art and decorative arts collections and photography requests.
  • Lead individual and group tours of the buildings, grounds and collections.
  • Present gallery talks and lectures.
  • Assist with the care and  conservation of collections and loan requests.
  • Assist with coordinating all aspects of the annual outdoor sculpture exhibition (Contemporary Sculpture at Chesterwood) and participate in coordinating other temporary exhibitions at Chesterwood or other historic sites/museums.
  • Maintain the housekeeping care of collections in period rooms; studio and barn gallery in association with the buildings and grounds staff as well as other curatorial work as needed.    

Qualifications:

  • Entry level position with a minimum of one year or equivalent of museum experience (i.e. a museum internship)
  • B.A. in Art History or related field
  • Proven knowledge and interest in American art especially sculpture desirable
  • Excellent research, writing and verbal skills required as well as proven technical proficiency in computer software programs including the PastPerfect collections database program.
  • Ability to use digital photography in collections research and management required. 
  • List of three academic and museum professional references.
