May 2007 Update:

Hope everyone had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend, and are enjoying the summer weather being enjoyed across the United States this week.  We have many exciting announcements in this month's installment of the Preservation Newsletter, most notably a partnership with This Old House Magazine and our new "Preservation Blog" (launching in mid-June).  As always, feedback is greatly appreciated and thanks again for your continued support!

Partnership with This Old House Magazine - Looking for "The Best Places to Buy an Old House":
As part of our commitment to the preservation community, PreservationDirectory.com has teamed up with This Old House to promote an exciting new venture.  An upcoming issue of This Old House will feature a first-ever list of "The Best Places to Buy an Old House" - and they need your help!  Please take a moment to read the overview below, and respond to This Old House Associate Editor, Keith Pandolfi at keith_pandolfi@timeinc.com (please note, submissions are due no later than June 8th, 2007).

Our goal is simple: We want to spread the word to our old-house-loving readers about neighborhoods and towns they may never have heard of, but that have dozens of beautiful, affordable, architecturally significant, or even, historic houses that might be appealing to preservation-minded buyers.

And we're especially interested in places where the momentum for preservation is just getting started thanks to pioneers who have begun moving in and rehabbing houses, or where there's an established preservation nonprofit that can provide guidance and information on preservation resources, or financial and tax incentives for those willing to restore endangered or neglected areas. Want to help? Then just send us:

  • The name of the neighborhood, town or district you wish to nominate.
  • A brief history of the area
  • A brief description of the types of houses available, including architectural styles, the period in which they were built; and their estimated cost.
  • A short paragraph on why you think the area deserves to be included on our list.

Once we've put together an initial list, we'll look at other factors, such as schools, municipal services, crime stats, and property values, to determine which ones make the final cut. Nominations are due no later than June 8th, 2007. Please send information to This Old House Associate Editor, Keith Pandolfi at keith_pandolfi@timeinc.com.

Announcing the soon-to-be-launched "Preservation Blog":
We are pleased to announce the upcoming launch of our newest venture, aimed at promoting historic and cultural resource projects and facilitating communication among our audience.  The "Preservation Blog" will launch in June 2007 and will present articles/blurbs in a myriad of categories related to historic and cultural resource preservation.  Such categories will include:

  • Endangered History
  • Heritage Travel & Tourism
  • Preservation Legislation
  • Funding Sources and Resources
  • Urban Planning & Revitalization
  • Building Restoration: Techniques & Resources
  • Local Preservation Issues
  • Researching Your Historic Home
  • Architectural Styles
  • Architecture & Design
  • and many, many more!

Through our online form, you will be able to submit articles and blurbs for our available categories, as well as recommend additional categories.  We look forward to working with the entire preservation community to build an informative meeting place that will benefit our thousands of daily visitors.  If you would like to submit an article or have an idea for an article, please contact us at info@preservationdirectory.com.  Again, this section of our site will be officially launched in mid-June 2007, to be accompanied by a formal announcement via email.

Preservation Events & Conferences:
There are currently over 120 events listed on our "Preservation Events & Conferences" directory.  We just added close to 70 events, so be sure to check out our directory for a wide selection of preservation-related events and conferences taking place in North America throughout 2007 and into 2008.

To view the Preservation Events & Conferences directory, go to: http://www.preservationdirectory.com/PreservationNewsEvents/NewsEvents.aspx

To submit event/conference information, use our online form at: http://www.preservationdirectory.com/PreservationNewsEvents/NewsEventsSubmit.aspx

Real Estate Agent Directory:
Be sure to view the new members of our "Real Estate Agent" directory - our new directory features agents from all over the United States who can help you find your historic dream house, with more being added each week.  To view the directory, go to: http://www.preservationdirectory.com/HistoricRealEstate/AgentListing.aspx

Why List on the Real Estate Agent Directory?

  • 20% Discount on All "Real Estate for Sale" Listings - while your agent listing is active, you will receive 20% off on all property listings.
  • More Exposure for Your Property Listings - each of your current property listings on PreservationDirectory.com appear at the bottom of your Agent Listing (with links to each).
  • Ensure Maximum Exposure to the Preservation Community - we receive thousands of hits daily from your target audience.
  • Search Position - for agents currently listed on our site, their exposure/ranking on Google rises as a direct result of being listed on our site.  Here are three examples:
    • On Google, a search for "historic real estate Chicago" brings up Michael Wolski's profile on our site at the number 1 position (out of over 4 million results for that keyword phrase).
    • On Google, a search for "historic real estate Portland" brings up Mark Klepczynski's profile on our site at the number 2 position (out of over 1 million results for that keyword phrase).
    • On Google, a search for "historic real estate Atlanta" brings up Savannah Ferguson's profile on our site at the number 5 position (out of over 1 million results for that keyword phrase).
