The Committee for the Restoration and Beautification of the Randolph Cemetery (CRBRC) is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of Preservation Administrator.  This unique cemetery was established in 1871 in honor of slain Benjamin Franklin Randolph, holds at least 12 African-American Reconstruction-era legislators, including Randolph, and is located in downtown Columbia, South Carolina.  The duties for this part-time, one year position, include: creating a preservation plan and interpretive plan with the CRBRC, attend monthly evening CRBRC meetings, aiding the CRBRC with the selection of contractors for restoration of monuments and site features, overseeing restoration efforts, directing landscape maintenance and stabilization, applying for grants, establishing fundraising opportunities through membership and events, creating public education events, generating positive publicity for the cemetery, creating tours for visitors to the cemetery, researching interments at the site, completing administrative duties as assigned.

Qualified applicants should have a master’s degree in historic preservation and at least one year of experience, or several years of experience directly related to the duties listed above.  Preference will be given to applicants with cemetery preservation experience, however, the CRBRC will also be offering guidance and educational materials for the Preservation Administrator.  The CRBRC takes an active role in the cemetery’s preservation but seeks a candidate who can work with minimum daily supervision.

Please note that this contract is for a temporary position and that there are no benefits associated with this position: no paid holidays, vacation or sick time, no overtime and no health benefits.
