Responsible for administering the department and supervising its staff, developing and implementing departmental policies, overseeing administration of the Ohio Archaeological Inventory and the Ohio Historic Inventory program, the National Register Program, the State Registries program, the Ohio Historic Homestead program, and related outreach programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Administer the department's programs including planning, reporting, and final sign off on National Register Nominations and Rehabilitation Tax Credit Part I applications for preliminary determination of listings.
• Serve as Deputy State Historic Preservation Officer for Inventory & Registration-related policy and programs and represents the OHPO at the National Conference of State Historic Preservation Officers and other national and state forums.
• Develop yearly work plans for the Inventory & Registration Department including coordination of departmental budget with the Education and Support Services Department Head. Ensures that work plans are implemented.
• Direct department, office and statewide policy making in the areas of inventory and registration.
• Oversee the Ohio Historic Inventory and the Ohio Archaeological Inventory, including the processing of forms and reports for inclusion in the electronic database.
• Oversee National Register of Historic Places program, State Registries program, departmental review and/or coordination of the inventory, and registration components of sub grants.
• Conduct professional detailed reviews of National Register nominations within established deadlines and Ohio Historic Inventory survey forms and reports.
• Oversee the coordination of Ohio Historic Site Preservation Advisory Board (OHSPAB) meetings. Assists and supports all interactions with OHSPAB.
• Coordinate inventory and registration matters with other departments.
• Oversee the department's training, education, and outreach programs.
• Other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience:
Graduate degree in American history, anthropology, archaeology, architecture, architectural history, historic preservation planning, or closely related preservation field, or its equivalent in education and experience, or must meet the professional qualifications standards in 36 CFR 61, Appendix A. A minimum of five years experience in a professional capacity in the area of historic preservation with increasing supervisory and/or program management responsibility. Familiarity with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and the national historic preservation laws, regulations and guidelines.
