The purpose of the class is to plan, supervise, and administer preservation planning activities. The class is responsible for planning and monitoring heritage related studies, projects and programs, conducting research and studies, handling questions from the public, and preparing planning documents. The class works within a general outline of work to be performed; develops work methods and sequences under general supervision. Heritage Officer is responsible for the preservation of over five thousand (5,000) historical structures.
Job Responsibilities:
- Supervises, administers, and monitors current and long term planning activities and projects.
- Develops and coordinates work tasks to maintain certification of the Texas Historical Commission’s Certified Local Government program and other projects.
- Performs design guideline studies, collects and analyzes data, and reviews work done by consultants.
- Relating on a senior level with local taxing entities, state and federal bodies on heritage related issues.
- Prepares budget and performance measures reports, grant applications monitoring reports, maps, travel requests and agenda item requests, modeling documents for the department.
- Communicates with the public regarding heritage-related information.
- Responds to questions and requests from citizens, developers, transportation, and other professionals.
- Conducts Public Hearings for the Heritage Council and Heritage Review Committee.
- Assists in coordinating Downtown street events, festivals, concerts, and film projects.
- Monitoring all heritage related issues with the O11 Overlay District.
- Performs related tasks as necessary.
Qualifications: Masters in Historic Preservation or Architecture preferred. Requires Bachelor’s degree or education and training equivalent to four years of college in transportation planning, community planning, statistics, communications or a closely related field.

Salary or Pay Rate: $3,624.00 monthly
