We’re happy to announce the inaugural year of the Preservation Action Advocacy Scholars Program. The deadline is January 15, 2014. You may have questions about this new program, please contact us at education@preservationaction.org.

Historic Preservation Advocacy Week is an annual event bringing over 250 preservationists to Capitol Hill to advocate for stronger federal preservation policies; it is our collective chance to bring the issues facing our historic communities and places directly to Congress with one unified voice for preservation.

Students have always been encouraged to participate in this important educational event that includes briefings by leading advocates for preservation policy from Preservation Action and its partners, and we’ve hosted delegations from schools across the country.

Scholarship Award Details

This year, we are pleased to offer a limited number of by safesaver">scholarships to this year’s program to be held March 3 through 6 in Washington, DC. The scholarship includes complimentary registration to Advocacy Week and a $500 stipend, generously sponsored by HRI Properties.

Those awarded will be the invited guests of Preservation Action to Advocacy Week’s Hill reception where the scholarship will be presented in the presence of Members of Congress from their district or state. In addition, Scholars will be paired with a member of Preservation Action as a mentor during the entire Week. With the help of Preservation Action, students are also expected to schedule a meeting with their hometown Member of Congress at their district offices to present their winning paper.

How to Apply

In order to be considered, applicants will submit a 3-5 page paper on a preservation policy or advocacy topic to be submitted by January 15, 2014, accompanied by a cover letter and proof of by safesaver">enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate Historic Preservation, Public Policy, Law, or related program.
