The Idaho State Historical Society is an extraordinary system of cultural and historic resources comprised of the Idaho State Historical Museum, State Archives and State Records Center, State Historic Preservation Office, and Historic Sites Program. We seek to inspire, enrich, and engage all Idahoans by leading the state in preserving, sharing, and using history and cultural resources relevant to today to inform and influence the future.Planner, Historic Preservation positions assist Certified Local Governments (CLGs) and local historic preservation efforts through training, outreach, technical assistance, and grant administration.

Responsibilities:
Assist local governments and historic preservation commissions in identifying and analyzing cultural resource data for planning and setting priorities. Identify generalized low and high-risk areas to help develop statewide preservation priorities. Prepare, update, and revise the historic preservation plan. Assist federal, state, and local governments in developing historic preservation planning processes and programs. Prepare and review planning reports and documents. Develop and conduct training sessions for local historic preservation commissioners. Develop evaluation factors and criteria to evaluate participants planning performance. Conduct lectures and workshops for government officials and the public. Review, evaluate, and approve sub-grantee and contractor applications, reports, and agreements for accuracy and compliance with state and federal laws and regulations. Respond to inquiries regarding grant or contract availability, requirements, and guidelines. Recommend termination, suspension, or repayment of funds. Develop written and statistical reports

Minimum Qualifications:
Good knowledge of historic preservation planning and practices and related federal regulations. Some knowledge of United States history. Demonstrated ability to: make oral presentations before groups; communicate effectively orally and in writing to a wide range of audiences. Experience interpreting, applying, and explaining laws and regulations; interpreting narrative or demographic or statistical reports to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, or requirements. Experience collecting, organizing, and evaluating data and writing narrative reports of findings.
