DESCRIPTION:
The Prince George's County Planning Department is seeking a Planner Coordinator to work in the Historic Preservation Section of our Countywide Planning Division. The Historic Preservation Section provides support to the Prince George's County Historic Preservation Commission (HPC), an appointed board that meets one evening each
month, and also provides technical support to the Prince George's County Planning Department and the Prince George's County Planning Board.

The ideal candidate will have a master's degree in historic preservation planning or architectural history or equivalent disciplines related to the job functions and at least three years of progressively responsible professional- level planning experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. At the Planner Coordinator
level, the individual in this position is an experienced professional planner who will be primarily responsible for management and coordination of the Prince George's County
Historic Property Grant Program, and will participate in other aspects of the HPC's work program including but not limited to historic property research and documentation to state and federal standards, the review of Historic Area Work Permit (HAWP) applications, Prince George's County Preservation Tax Credit applications, and will participate as a team member in the development of historic preservation elements for Planning Department master plan and section plan projects.

EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT DUTIES:

Candidates for this position should meet appropriate qualifications for professional preservation planning, especially including a strong background in the history of American architecture, experience in conducting architectural surveys, undertaking Section 106 review or compliance work, the preparation of National Register nominations, heritage tourism initiatives, and other historic preservation-related plans and studies. The successful candidate will be highly organized, and demonstrate experience in developing and implementing complex preservation planning projects such as grant programs, the negotiation of contracts, and the development and administration of grant property easements, and will have experience in team leadership and successful project initiation and management. A successful candidate must also have substantial analytical skills that reflect "best practices" in historic preservation and excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to negotiate in a clear and persuasive manner.

Preferred Skills: Microsoft Office Suite, ArcGIS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's Degree in planning, architecture, parks, engineering, environmental science, or equivalent disciplines related to job function and three (3) years of progressively responsible professional level planning experience at the journey level; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
