POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT:
Historic Seattle’s VisionTogether we are shaping a livable city that values and protects its collective history. Invitation to ApplyHistoric Seattle Preservation and Development Authority (HSPDA) invites applications for the position of Education Program Manager. Historic Seattle is the only city-wide non-profit organization devoted exclusively to the preservation of Seattle’s historic and architectural legacy. Since its founding in 1974, Historic Seattle has been a major advocate for, and active participant in, thoughtful and meaningful preservation and rehabilitation of historic buildings and landscapes. Historic Seattle seeks an exceptional professional with a demonstrable focus on historic preservation education programs to join our highly dedicated team. Our Education Program Manager will be tasked with the creation and execution of an education program complementing and enhancing the Organization’s vision.  

Position Summary
The Education Program Manager will be:
  • An individual with an appreciation, understanding, and knowledge of Seattle’s architectural history and a seasoned professional with tangible experience bringing creative programs and events to a broad audience.  
  • An individual able to retain an audience who have come to expect an inspiring and meaningful array of long-standing and successful tours, lectures, workshops, and events while attracting an even larger and more diverse array of program participants.
  • Team-oriented in achieving organizational goals.
  • Able to balance strategic planning and day-to-day completion of necessary event and program related tasks.
  • Sensitive to interpersonal dynamics and relationships.
The responsibilities of this position include:  
  • Developing a creative and comprehensive annual education program by working collaboratively with the Director of Preservation Services, other HSPDA staff, the Organization’s Advocacy and Education Committee of the HSPDA Council, and the Historic Seattle Foundation Board. The education program will consists of approximately 20-30 annual events. Events include those that highlight historic buildings, neighborhoods, and landscapes that make Seattle and the Puget Sound region unique. Events also include educational opportunities related to advocacy efforts that support historic preservation.
  • Implementing the annual education program. Tasks include, but are not limited to, coordinating with partnering organizations, on-site personnel, staff, and vendors; program marketing and promotion; management of schedules, budget, and day-of event logistics in addition to recruiting and managing event volunteers; assisting with production of promotional materials highlighting the education program and collateral materials distributed at events.
  • Being a comfortable and compelling spokesperson for Historic Seattle at programs on both an interpersonal level and at public speaking opportunities.
  • Working in concert with Historic Seattle’s multi-disciplined approach to historic preservation focusing on advocacy, real estate development, stewardship, communications, and philanthropy to achieve organizational mission, vision, and values. 

Required Qualifications
Education: Baccalaureate degree in history, historic preservation, education, planning, architectural history or related field is desired.

Experience:  
  • Three to five years of progressive, results-oriented experience developing and implementing historic preservation, history, architecture and/or design-focused education programs and events.
  • Knowledge of the historic development and evolution of Seattle’s built environment. 
  • Demonstrable work as a contributing and collegial member of a multi-disciplined team. 
  • Proven effective communication, writing, organizational, leadership, administrative, marketing, computer, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability and desire to work effectively with people of diverse personalities, cultures, and communication styles, including volunteers, community leaders, business representatives, Board members, and colleagues.
  • Experience in a non-profit setting.

Additional Position Details
This full-time, salaried, and exempt position reports to Historic Seattle’s Director of Preservation Services. A comprehensive salary and benefits package is offered.  Historic Seattle offers a positive and flexible working environment. Candidate must be willing to work outside of normal business hours.
