Advises organizations and other city departments on historic preservation policies. Conveys recommendations on behalf of Historic Preservation Commission to other city boards and commissions. Prepares budget and prepares reports. Coordinates permitting processes. Conducts federally mandated reviews and maintains required reports and recordkeeping. Develops programs related to historic preservation. Prepares and coordinates historical research, National Register nominations, and educational projects. Evaluates projects using standards outlined by the Secretary of the Interior and in local ordinances. Conducts on-site inspections; reviews construction plans, specifications, and cost estimates; and supervises construction. Prepares and submits grant applications; administers awarded grants. Recommends affordable housing projects and coordinates initial review of proposals. Must meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Qualification Standards (promulgated by the National Park Service and published in 36 CFR Part 61) defining the minimum education and experience required to perform identification, evaluation, registration, and treatment activities for historic properties.
