The American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati, a nonprofit
historical and educational organization headquartered in Washington, D.C.,
seeks a part-time weekend supervisor to be responsible for all aspects of the
museum tour program during public weekend hours. The major aspects of this work are overseeing visitor services, docent management, and security.

The museum’s public tour hours during the weekend are Saturday, 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and Sunday, 12-4 p.m. The weekend supervisor will help manage the weekend visitors and will be responsible for ensuring that they have an enjoyable experience at Anderson House.

Founded in 1783, the Society promotes knowledge and appreciation of the achievement of American independence. The Society’s American Revolution Institute, launched in 2014, now carries out this work by supporting advanced study, presenting exhibitions and other public programs, advocating preservation, and providing resources to teachers and students. Since 1938 the Society has maintained its headquarters at and worked to preserve and interpret Anderson House, a 1905 mansion and National Historic Landmark in the Dupont Circle neighborhood of Washington, D.C. For more information, visit www.societyofthecincinnati.org.

Major Duties include:

·Supervise the part-time weekend receptionists and volunteer docents on duty.

·Manage visitor services, including assisting the docents in greeting and orienting visitors, overseeing scheduled tour groups, and giving tours as needed.

·Display a working knowledge of the Society’s activities in order to address a wide range of inquiries from the public and Society members on subjects including group tours, site rentals, library research, and member services.

·Implement security procedures, including opening and closing the tour spaces.

·Assist with museum shop sales.

·Assist with the management of public programs during public weekend hours as needed.

Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with an interest in museum management and historic sites. Experience with visitor services and giving tours in a museum setting are preferred. A successful candidate will have demonstrated customer service experience and interpersonal skills (pleasant, resourceful, and professional demeanor). The weekend supervisor must be trustworthy and display good judgment. This position may involve moderate physical activity such as standing for long periods of time, climbing stairs, and lifting tables and chairs.

Hours and Salary:

The weekend supervisor will work Saturdays, 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Sundays, 11:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Compensation for this position is $20 per hour.

To apply, send a resume and cover letter, including mention of where you learned about this opening, to:
