Historic Resources Summer Intern - 2018, New Hampshire Land & Community Heritage Investment Program (Concord, NH)

New Hampshire’s Land and Community Heritage Investment Program (LCHIP) seeks an intern to assist with the stewardship of LCHIP-funded historic resources.
The internship will provide practical experience in the field of historic preservation including interpreting legal documents, monitoring and inspecting historic properties, assessing building conditions, interpreting of the Secretary’s Standards, and report-writing and documentation.
Primary Responsibilities: The intern will conduct field inspections of previously funded LCHIP projects. Specific tasks will include reviewing project files, visiting the sites, and documenting current conditions. The intern will also be responsible for meeting with new building stewards and teaching them the LCHIP monitoring process.
Other duties: The intern will also update data in the LCHIP database, assist in processing and evaluating the annual cycle of grant applications, and aid LCHIP staff with daily activities and administrative tasks as time allows.
Schedule: 35 hours per week over 12 weeks (June-August). There is some flexibility on beginning and end dates. The position will be based at LCHIP’s office in Concord, NH, but will include travel around the state.
Requirements: Applicants must be currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an undergraduate or graduate program in historic preservation or a closely aligned field. The ideal candidate will have strong understanding of the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards and basic familiarity with preservation easements. Tact and a positive attitude are also important, especially for dealing with property owners. The ability to work independently will be essential, although there will also be many opportunities to work with LCHIP’s small, energetic staff. Reliable transportation is required. Photography skills are valued. Housing is not provided.
