Restoration Carpenter/Preservation Specialist

Description: Shenandoah Restorations is a small restoration and preservation company located in Shenandoah County, Virginia that is committed to preserving the area's rich architectural heritage and continuing an enduring tradition of artisanal integrity in the historic building trades.  We specialize in the total restoration and preservation of any traditionally built structure from vernacular log houses or high style Victorians to timber-framed barns and outbuildings.     

Duties: Assist in the restoration of all aspects of historic structures and outbuildings, including but not limited to: rough and fine carpentry, historic window restoration, masonry, plaster repair, painting,  cabinetry, log building restoration, and structural
repair.

The position will be responsible for executing detailed and thoughtful restoration carpentry work in an efficient and thorough manner. The ability to work independently with little supervision and ability to manage small projects is highly desired.

Qualifications: 
  • Interest in historic buildings and restoration
  • Carpentry experience
  • Efficient and good work ethic
  • Motivated and Reliable
  • Willingness to learn
  • Able to lift 80 lbs
  • Ability to manage time and tasks
  • Detail oriented
  • Basic carpentry tools
  • Valid driver's license and vehicle 
  • Familiarity with the Secretary of the Interiors Standards for Historic Preservation is a plus
  • Capacity to work alone when necessary

Starting Pay: $12 – $18/hr based on experience. Pay and responsibilities expected to grow with increased skills and experience.
