Roslindale Village Main Street, one of the first five urban main street programs in America and winner of the Urban Pioneer Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation, is accepting applications for the position of executive director. The executive director is responsible for coordinating revitalization activities for an up and coming commercial district within the city of Boston.

The Executive Director will be the primary champion and advocate of physical improvement projects, small business development assistance, marketing and promotion activities (including a seasonal farmers’ market), recruitment and coordination of volunteers, public awareness and communications (including Web site management), maintaining financial records and building productive relationships with local groups. Hours can be irregular, including occasional evening meetings or Saturday activities.

Job Knowledge and Skills Required:
The Executive Director should have experience or education in one or more of the following areas: commercial district management, public relations, planning, small business development/administration, retailing, non-profit administration, historic preservation and fundraising. The Executive Director must be entrepreneurial, energetic, well organized and able to work effectively with others and independently. Strong communication and leadership skills are essential. No matter how skilled a promoter or organizer, a candidate will not be successful without an ability to develop a good rapport with stakeholders, business owners and community residents.

Minimum Requirements:

  1. Skills and experience meet description above
  2. Undergraduate college degree
  3. Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Excel, QuickBooks, Dreamweaver Web editor (or similar software applications)
  4. At least three references
