The Allentown Art Museum seeks an experienced and creative candidate to lead its dynamic education program. Offerings within the program serve 40,000 participants per year comprising pre-school through university students and families and adults from the Allentown area and the larger eastern Pennsylvania region.

The Director of Education reports to the museum Director and is a member of the museum’s senior management team. S/he will work with the director, board education committee and other museum colleagues to develop programs for the existing facility as well as for the museum’s upcoming expansion that will approximately double the size of its current facility and provide a concomitant increase in classroom space. S/he will oversee a professional staff of five and an equal number of part-time museum educators and is responsible for the department’s $400,000 budget. S/he also works closely with a corps of 40 dedicated, thoroughly trained volunteer docents.

Requirements:
A master’s degree in Art History is preferred though a graduate degree in a related field such as Art Education or Museum Studies will be considered. A minimum of five years' experience managing a museum education department or as a senior member of a museum education team is preferred. The successful candidate will have a broad knowledge of art history and will be committed to enhancing visitors’ experiences with works of art. Superb oral and written communication skills and the ability and passion to engage people of a variety of ages and educational backgrounds are required.
