Don Klima, the Director of the Office of Federal Agency Programs at the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation, has announced that he will be leaving the ACHP on January 2, 2009. He will be joining Brockington & Associates, a cultural resources consulting firm in Atlanta, with offices in Jacksonville, Savannah, and Charleston.

The ACHP is now recruiting for Don's replacement. The position is posted at www.usajobs.gov, where you will also find information about the application process; the vacancy number is ACHP-TL-08-MM214526. A copy of the vacancy announcement and the full position description can be found on the ACHP's website: www.achp.gov.

This is one of the most visible and important positions in the federal preservation program. This is a permanent position as a federal employee with a starting salary of $115,317 (and a current salary range of up to $149,000) and includes the full complement of federal employee benefits. The position is located in Washington, DC.  The director is a critical senior level management position, assisting in the development of policy and providing direction to a major staff unit to enable the ACHP to meet the broad goals established for it under the National Historic Preservation Act. The incumbent manages all activities of the ACHP under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act, works with agencies throughout the federal government to improve how they consider historic properties in their planning and program activities, oversees the ACHP’s training activities, and represents the agency in working with tribal, state, and local governments; professional organizations; and the public.

The ACHP is accepting applications until 31 October. If you need additional information, contact Ralston Cox at 202.606.8528 or at rcox@achp.gov.
