Preservation Field Services Manager
Location (City, State): Negotiable
Type: Full-Time    Salary: $50,000-60,000

Position Description:
Preservation Virginia is seeking an energetic self-starter to join a collaborative team to support individuals and groups intent on saving, preserving and sharing Virginia’s historic places. The Preservation Field Service Manager works internally and externally to advise on best practices in historic preservation and community-based preservation initiatives. The Preservation Field Service Manager responds to inquiries from individuals, organizations, and local governments related to threats and solutions to save, adapt and preserve historic places. The position manages and supports the annual Most Endangered Historic Sites and Awards programs. The position represents the organization in state and federal review processes and coordinates outreach work with the Community Outreach Manager to build and support networks with educational workshops, digital programming and other resources.

Qualifications:
The successful candidate will be an innovative thinker, results oriented and well organized with a minimum of a four-year college or university with a degree in historic preservation, urban or rural planning or a similar field of study complementary to community revitalization. Strong writing and oral communication skills and a working knowledge of historic preservation practices, local, state and federal preservation regulations and guidelines and firm background in general historic preservation approaches, concepts and programs. Hours will vary depending on initiatives and may require after hours, evening and weekend work. Candidates must have a valid Virginia driver’s license and have access to their own vehicle as this position involves travel statewide. Because of the nature of statewide preservation work, Preservation Virginia offers flexible and hybrid work arrangements depending on the role and the employee. 

Additional Considerations
- Experience providing technical preservation or planning assistance to municipalities, community groups, and/or individuals.
- Demonstrable experience interpreting and applying National Park Service guidance and the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
- Experience in outreach and public speaking, preparing and delivering public presentations.
- Experience in writing and/or reviewing zoning, ordinances or preservation plans.
- Demonstrate excellent ability working with a team of individuals and independently.
- Demonstrate experience in determining the eligibility of resources for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
- Develops online and in-person resources for individuals and groups interested in learning preservation processes.
- Supports the development and fundraising efforts by providing content, interacting with supporters and community members.
- Coordinates preservation efforts with DHR and other state and local agencies.
- Works as a part of the management team to advance initiatives identified in the strategic plan and to find ways to develop, when appropriate, preservation programming at our historic sites.
