1845 Program Supervisor, Historic Fort Snelling, Minnesota Historical Society (St. Paul, MN)

JOB TITLE: Program Supervisor, Historic Fort Snelling 
LOCATION: Historic Fort Snelling, 200 Tower Ave, St Paul, MN 55111 COMPENSATION: $52,720 annual minimum, commensurate with experience. 
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2,080 annual hours) position. 
BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to provide direct supervision for site staff working in both interpretive and visitor services capacities, research and develop site public programming, coordinate daily operations, site rentals, Visitor Center and landscape operations, and participate in community outreach. 

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Provide direct supervision of site staff who perform both interpretive and visitor service duties and volunteers on a day-to-day basis; 2) Support the daily operations of Historic Fort Snelling; 3) Participate in the development of short and long-term planning; 4) Lead the coordination and operations of visitor services programs including the store, ticketing, and rentals; and 5) Provide for the safety and security of visitors, staff, volunteers and interns. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent program experience. 
- Experience creating, evaluation, and updating education curriculum and programming.

- Demonstrated experience supervising staff, managing daily operations and programs, delivering, research, and creating programs. 
- Demonstrated experience in training staff on customer service and communicating program information. 
- Strong oral communication skills, ability to listen and be responsive to questions and comments.

- Ability to effectively facilitate dialogue between individuals and groups. 
- Public relations skill in working with a diverse audience. 
- Ability to effectively mentor other staff and supervise their work. 
- Demonstrated ability to positively work with the public. 
- Demonstrated customer services skills sufficient to establish and maintain positive, effective working relationships.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and take individual initiative while also being able to collaborate effectively and contribute positively in a team environment. 
- Demonstrated ability to multitask, work effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritize and adapt to changing priorities. 
- Strong analytical and organizational skills with a demonstrated result orientation.

- Demonstrated ability to think imaginatively and problem solve. 
- Ability to recognize and respect confidential information. 
- Ability to administer and monitor program budgets. 
- Strong computer skills and technical proficiency. 
- Ability to work a flexible schedule. 
- Ability to perform moderate physical labor in order to keep the site clean and safe.
- Ability to stand for extended periods of time to perform programming and sales responsibilities
- Ability and willingness to travel. 

- Valid driver’s license. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
- Bachelor’s Degree in American History, education, museum studies or a related field.
- Knowledge of learning theories and experience with interpretive methods and techniques.
- Knowledge of audio visual equipment technology. 
- Knowledge of Minnesota history and cultural diversity issues.
