JOB TITLE: 1867 Collections Processing & Cataloging Manager 
LOCATION: History Center - 345 W Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102 COMPENSATION: $65,040.00 annual minimum 
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2,080 annual hours) position. 
BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: This position provides management, leadership, and vision across all functions of the Collections Processing & Cataloging Unit. The unit is responsible for processing and cataloging the MNHS collections including art, books, newspapers, manuscripts, maps, objects, oral histories, serials, and sound/visual materials. The goal of these activities is to ensure organization, description, and permanent preservation of collections while also facilitating discovery, access, and use through in-person and online means. The manager collaborates with other LRC staff on relevant intellectual and physical management of the collections. 

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Provide management oversight to unit staff; 2) Manage the general operations of the unit; 3) Manage sustainable and innovative collections processing and cataloging activities that support access to and use of the collections by MNHS’s wide and diverse constituencies; and 4) Actively participate in and contribute to institution initiatives, short- and long-term planning, and strategic priorities through internal engagement with MNHS colleagues and by representing MNHS to external partners. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
- Masters degree in library/information science or equivalent education and experience.

- Five years working in a library, archives, museum, or other cultural heritage setting in progressively responsible positions. 
- Experience in operational administration in a cultural heritage setting. 
- Experience in personnel management and supervision, including scheduling, hiring, creating work plans, strengthening positive workplace culture, and performance management to ensure success towards organizational goals. 
- Experience in fiscal management. 
- Experience in programmatic planning and implementation, setting objectives, and prioritizing to meet evolving department and institutional goals. 
- Physical tolerance to dust, mold and other airborne materials.


DEMONSTRATED SKILLS IN: 
- Creating, fostering, and leading, a collaborative team environment that values individuals’ diversity of expertise, experience, and perspective while working towards common goals.
- Demonstrated innovative and entrepreneurial leadership or programmatic responsibilities.
- Multitasking, working effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritizing and adapting to changing priorities. 

- Working independently and taking individual initiative while also being able to collaborate effectively and contribute positively in a team environment. 
- Communicating, both orally and written, including preparing and delivering reports.

- Creating and maintaining process and project documentation. 
- Creating positive partnerships and relationships within an organization and with external partners. 
- Experience tracking and reporting on performance metrics related to collections processing and cataloging. 
- Computer skills, specifically Google applications. 


KNOWLEDGE OF: 
- Familiarity with and commitment to professional best practices and standards in the field of cultural heritage collections processing, cataloging, and management. 
- Ex Libris ALMA/PRIMO 
- OCLC Connexion 
- LC Cataloger’s Desktop 
- LC Classification Web 
- LC NACO/SACO policies and practices 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
- Ex Libris Alma and/or Primo certification 
- Experience with Axiell EMu collections management system 
- Experience with Bibliotheca RFID system 
- Experience with Oxygen XML editor 
- Knowledge of XSLT and other scripting languages 
- Experience managing archival collection data in EAD 
- Experience with ArchiveSpace 
- Experience administering archival and library collection data in Alma. 
- Knowledge of reparative description philosophy and approach. 
- Development and management of policies such as take-down notices and sensitive content warnings. 
- Copyright knowledge as relates to library and archival collections. 
- Experience creating and directing ad hoc work groups on special projects.
- Experience with grant writing and project management. 

- Active engagement with relevant professional organizations such as the Society of American Archivists and the American Library Association. 
- Familiarity with the collections of the Minnesota Historical Society and associated online discovery and access tools.
