Management of the historic site, Oatlands, has transitioned under a mutual agreement from Oatlands, Inc. to the National Trust for Historic Preservation, the two entities announced today. Both organizations have agreed to end the Co-Stewardship agreement which named Oatlands, Inc. as the operator of the site owned by the National Trust. Oatlands, Inc. was established in 1979 as a separate 501(C)3 nonprofit to manage the eponymous historic site.

“The National Trust extends gratitude and appreciation to the current and past Board members and volunteers who have been a part of Oatlands, Inc. for their stewardship of this site for four decades,” said Omar Eaton-Martinez, Senior Vice President for Historic Sites, National Trust. “Our partners who care for these sites are doing so out of a deep passion for history, culture, and the many stories held in the places. They are not just stewards of the past, but they are also the guardians of their futures,” he added.

“Oatlands, Inc. Board leadership is proud of the four decades of management of Oatlands, the historic site, and we are pleased to have worked collaboratively with the National Trust for Historic Preservation on its future,” said Dr. Robert Allen, Chair of the Board of Directors, Oatlands, Inc.

Over the past few months, the two organizations have been working together to create a seamless management transition for the historic site. Several Oatlands, Inc. staff have transitioned to being National Trust employees. The National Trust will create a local advisory committee to ensure a strong connection to the local community.
