Program in New England Studies
June 15-20, 2009 |
Historic New England presents the annual Program in New England Studies, an intensive learning experience with lectures by curators and architectural historians, workshops, and behind-the-scenes tours of Historic New England house museums and collections, as well as of other museums and private homes in the region.
The program examines New England history and material culture from the seventeenth century through the Colonial Revival and delves into architecture, including building design and technology, and the wide-ranging lifestyles illustrated by the historic sites on the itinerary. The program is based in Boston, and the group travels to sites in Portsmouth, N.H., Essex County, Mass.; Kittery, Me.; Lincoln, Mass.; and Woodstock, Conn. Also scheduled is a visit to Historic New England's Collections and Conservation Center to explore study collections and participate in a special workshop with an expert in New England furniture. |
