Herman Melville recounted in "Moby-Dick" . . . "The town itself is perhaps the dearest place to live in, in all New England. . . nowhere in all America will you find more patrician-like houses; parks and gardens more opulent, than in New Bedford."
On Sunday, June 24, 2007, from 1 to 5 p.m. you will have a special opportunity to stroll the city's 19th Century neighborhoods and to visit a fine selection of historic homes and hidden city gardens on the New Bedford Preservation Society's 25th Annual House and Garden Tour.
Advance tickets are $14 and $16 on the day of tour. Day-of-tour tickets may be purchased at the Wamsutta Club, where a pre-tour brunch will be served from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. ($28 for tour and brunch by reservation -508.997.7431).
Proceeds from this event assist the society in its ongoing projects, such as New Bedford Re-Leaf, the Historic Marker Program, production of the Historic District Walking tour brochures, its semi-annual house tours, cemetery tours and other efforts.
