Anatomy of a Historic Chimney
May 12, 2012 |
Enjoy a hands-on, in-depth look at historic chimneys and masonry on Saturday, May 12, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Join restoration mason Richard Irons for a hands-on, in-depth look at the chimney and masonry of Historic New England's 1665 Gedney House. Because the chimney was partially demolished in the past, it is open for study and exploration. Irons explains traditional building and mason practices in this attic-to-basement tour. Bring pictures of your own chimneys and fireplaces to discuss during a lunchtime Q&A session. After lunch, take a short walk to Salem's oldest house, the Pickering House, to see its restored chimneys and masonry.
$50 includes session, tours, and lunch. Registration is required. Please call 978-744-0440 or sign up at www.historicnewengland.org.
