Researching House History
October 20, 2012 |
Join library reference staff to learn about how to research the history of your house and the resources that can help you do it. Why research your house's history? Here are some reasons:
- Learn about the people who lived there
- Get an appreciation for local history
- Determine your home's architectural style
- Get ideas for renovation/remodeling
- Qualify for historic register listingsIncrease your house's selling points by learning history (if and when you plan to sell)
- Learn about the context of your home's history, even if you don't find specifics about your home
The program starts in Room 1A with an overview describing the resources available online, in the Downtown Northwest Room, at the Museum of Arts & Culture, and elsewhere. Then we'll adjourn to the Ned. M. Barnes Northwest Room upstairs for a hands-on look at the resources available there.
