Introduction to New England Architecture
Want to know how to tell a real Colonial-era house from a Colonial Revival? Learn about New England architecture from Historic New England's experts with this in-depth workshop on architectural styles and structures from the seventeenth century to the beginning of the twentieth century. Historic New England's preservation experts explain regional architectural traditions and styles, influential New England architects, and changing building technologies. Historic New England properties and other iconic regional buildings are highlighted. Examine the architectural history of the Lyman Estate mansion up close. The course concludes with a tour of nearby Stonehurst, a nineteenth-century masterpiece designed by H.H. Richardson. Box lunch is included.
