· 11:30am - The Myths and Truths about the National Register of Historic Places and Tax Credits
Presented by Dr. Steven Hoffman and Rebecca Ward - 1.5 hours (lunch included)
Get the basics of the National Register and Tax Credit programs. We will discuss common misconceptions and the actual purpose and benefits of these programs.
· 1:15pm - Preservation Commissions and Building Officials Working Together
Presented by Lexington, MO building officials - Moderated by Dr. Steven Hoffman - 2 hours
This training will discuss how Preservation Commissions can work with City and/or County officials to keep our structures safe and up to code while maintaining their historic character.

· 10:00am - Main Street and CLG’s - A Powerful Partnership
Presented by Gayla Roten and Rebecca Ward - 45 minutes
Learn about how Certified Local Governments are working with the Missouri Main Street Connection to preserve our historic structures and obtain economic vitality in historic downtown’s across the state.
· 11:00am - Your Job As A Commissioner Is . . .
Presented by Dr. Steven Hoffman - 45 minutes
You’ve been appointed to the Historic Preservation Commission . . . now what? The training will discuss the basics of design criteria based decisions and how to stick to your community’s guidelines.
· 12:00pm - Lunch

Explore beautiful downtown Washington while you lunch. Directions and menus will be available to help you choose the perfect spot for lunch and you should still have time to get some shopping in.
· 2:00pm - Key Note Address - Historic Preservation is Economic Development
Presented by Gayla Roten and Keith Winge - 1 hour
How to build the case that historic preservation provides economic stability for the downtown and community.
Gayla Roten is a high-energy individual who served as the Executive Director of the Branson Main Street program from 1994 to 2007. During that time she also served as President of Missouri Main Street Connection (MMSC) (2003-2007). Being hired in her current capacity as the as State Director of the Missouri Main Street Connection in 2007. Gayla is acquainted with the intricacies of local politics and how to get people working together. She has the level of skill and knowledge to inspire local revitalization programs and help them achieve their goals. Keith Winge has been working to revitalize downtown communities since the mid-1990s. Prior to his role as Executive Director for Downtown Excelsior Partnership, he served as a board member and officer from 2006 to 2010. Keith also has 20 years of experience in hospitality management. His experience encompasses commercial district revitalization, grant writing, funding strategies, project management, tourism marketing, customer service and community engagement. While in Excelsior Springs, Keith helped lead the effort to create a Community Improvement District to aid in the expansion of tourism marketing and economic development in the Main Street district.

A discussion of the materials presented during the two days of training as well as addressing any other questions the attendees may have
