Steam Sternwheeler Cruise
October 15, 2016 |
Take a one-of-a-kind ride on Portland's only completely restored steam sternwheel tugboat, the PORTLAND. Built in 1947 as a near-replica of its 1919 predecessor, the PORTLAND was an integral part of Portland's maritime economy during its 34 years of harbor service. After nearly rotting away once it was decommissioned, the PORTLAND was meticulously restored by a team of tireless volunteers, who still make up the crew of the vessel today. You'll have an unforgettable experience on this cruise, a four-hour trip in total, traveling about ten miles north on the Willamette River to the mouth of the mighty Columbia. Docents will be on hand to provide tours of the engine room and pilot house while the boat is in motion. Lunch will be provided, and videos
and exhibits on the history of the PORTLAND as well as the history of steam sternwheelers in the Columbia River region will be available to explore on board. Visit www.oregonmaritimemuseum.org to reserve your spot today!
