The Rochester Subway
May 20, 2018 |
An all new presentation of images from the archives of the New York Museum of Transportation brings back the unique story of the Rochester Subway—from an abandoned canal bed to an abandoned rapid transit line in just thirty years.
The show covers the construction, operation and decline of the Subway. Area residents and history enthusiasts will enjoy seeing these new images that further describe Rochester's brief flirtation with rapid transit.
Museum trolley operations interrupted
Since the museum's trolley operations are currently on hold while storm-related damage is being repaired, a program of mini-events has been scheduled for each Sunday. The events are free with specially reduced admission prices during this period.
The New York Museum of Transportation is open Sundays only, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and group tours during the week can be arranged by appointment. The museum is located at 6393 East River Road, just 20 minutes from downtown Rochester and easily reached from Exit 11 off I-390.
