Opening Fiesta for Juana Briones Exhibition
October 21, 2018 |
To celebrate the opening of their new exhibition, "Inspired by Juana: La Doña de la Frontera," the Los Altos History Museum will hold an opening Fiesta on Sunday, October 21, from 4-7pm. Grupo Folklorico will perform traditional dances from Veracruz, Mexico, and a vaquero-inspired menu will include churros for dessert. Local high school students who produced artwork for the exhibition will be on hand, as well as members of the exhibition Advisory Council, including descendants of Juana Briones. $30, children 10 and under $10. RSVP at losaltoshistory.org.
Juana Briones was a 19th century woman who overcame personal, economic, and
political struggles to become a successful entrepreneur, healer, advocate, and
landowner, purchasing a ranch in what became parts of Palo Alto and Los Altos
Hills. The Los Altos History Museum invites visitors to connect with her
remarkable story in its groundbreaking bi-lingual exhibition “Inspired by
Juana: La Doña de la Frontera,” running October 18th, 2018, through March 31,
2019. The Museum is free to the public, and open Thursdays-Sundays, noon to
4:00pm.
