Learn traditional skills in short hands-on weekend/evening workshops. These workshops are open to anyone interested in preservation crafts.
BLD 135: Blacksmithing I
Students learn the fundamentals of blacksmithing and study the history of techniques and materials used in traditional blacksmithing. They create simple objects using iron, forge, hammer and anvil.
Times: 9:00am-4:00pm
Dates: Sat-Sun, 16-17 & 23-24 Jan.
Location: Stella Blacksmith Shop, near Longview WA
BLD 234: Wood Window Component Replication
Students learn tools and techniques to replicate historic wood window components. They gain knowledge and skills to fabricate and assemble window components to match missing or deteriorated parts.
Times: 6:00-8:50pm
Dates: Mon & Wed, 1, 3, 8, & 10 Feb.
Location: Astoria OR
BLD 229: Historic Structure Documentation
Students develop skills to analyze and document historic buildings and sites, including field sketches, measured drawings, and photographs. They will assess existing conditions including materials, components, and systems to determine qualities and deterioration.
Times: 9:00am-4:00pm
Dates: Sat-Sun, 20-21 & 27-28 Feb.
Location: Astoria OR and Deep River WA
