Steinbrueck House Tour
March 24, 2024 |
Docomomo US/WEWA invites you to visit the Steinbrueck residencein Seattle. We first toured this house back in 2007 and we’re excited to open this architectural gem for public viewing again. We thank the current long-time owner and steward for providing this opportunity to see the house.
Designed by architect Victor Steinbrueck (1911-1985) for himself and his wife, Elaine Steinbrueck (Worden) (1931-2019), this modest home on Capitol Hill was built in 1950. Aware of its urban context along a busy street, the residence was designed as an efficient and compact home that expresses its residents’ need for privacy and comfort. The home is a solid stoic box solely punctuated by its entry door. However, once inside, the small floor plan takes advantage of the exterior garden room through its transparent west wall.
