Anniversary Park
Historic Jamestowne, Jamestown Settlement

Cost:
$30 Adults; $15 Youth (12 - 6 year olds); Free for under 6

Friday, May 11 Performance Highlights:
The Virginia Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of JoAnn Falletta, and Richmond Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Mark Russell Smith, play separately and then combine – for the first time ever – to premier new works by John Corigliano, John Duffy, Adolphus Hailstork and Jennifer Higdon written especially for the commemoration.

Saturday, May 12 Performance Highlights:
Three-time Grammy winner Bruce Hornsby & The Noise Makers leads an evening of rock, R&B and progressive bluegrass. Bruce will be joined by legendary funk and R&B artist Chaka Khan, as well as progressive bluegrass master Ricky Skaggs and his band Kentucky Thunder.  Their performances caps “400 Minutes of Music,” an afternoon-long program featuring contemporary rock infused with native American musical traditions from Brule’, a mix of folk, world, blues and soul music from South African artist Vusi Mahlasela, folk roots music from Michael Seeger, poetic urban folk from Jen Chapin, and alternative country from Scott Miller & The Commonwealth.

Sunday, May 13 Performance Highlights:
Anniversary Weekend concludes with the performance of a 400-Piece Orchestra and a 1,607-Voice Choir created especially for the commemoration and representing most of the United States. The individual choral and orchestra groups performing at Anniversary Park throughout the weekend join for a powerful concert worthy of America’s 400th Anniversary. A fireworks finale completes the evening.

In addition to performance highlights your America's Anniversary Ticket entitles you to:

  • Admission to Anniversary Weekend’s three sites—Jamestown Settlement, Historic Jamestowne, Anniversary Park
  • Satellite parking and bus transportation to and from the three sites
  • Cultural presentations/demonstrations featuring Indian, European and African works
  • Continuous entertainment on five performance stages (three at Anniversary Park and one each at Historic Jamestowne and Jamestowne Settlement)
  • Special evening productions at Anniversary Park’s Main Stage (details below)
  • Jamestown Settlement’s “World of 1607” exhibit, which places Jamestown in the global context of 17th century exploration, turmoil and innovation through rare treasures on loan from major museums and international collections
  • “The Crafting of America”: A special artisans’ village where blacksmithing, pottery making, glass blowing and other crafts that sustained the Jamestown settlement will be performed. A kid’s area will engage children in selected crafts

  • Admission to Jamestown Settlement’s new 30,000-square-foot galleries, including new exhibits devoted to European, Virginia Indian and the African experience at Jamestown
  • Guided tours and presentations by interpreters at Jamestown Settlement. New features include two new replica ships—the Godspeed and Discovery—as well as an enlarged and improved Virginia Indian village, Riverfront interpretive areas and new buildings within the re-creation of James Fort. Interpreters in period costume will help visitors understand life at Jamestown as lived by people from the three cultures that converged there—European, Virginia Indian and African
  • Historic Jamestowne features many new facilities designed to showcase recent scholarship. APVA’s “Archaearium” displays hundreds of artifacts unearthed from the re-discovered fort site in the last 13 years. The National Park Service’s new visitor center will help visitors understand the settling of Jamestown and the difficult times endured during its early years. Costumed interpreters will tell tales of the settlement’s beginning
  • Pageantry and demonstrations including military drills, cannon firings and dramatic readings of period materials
  • Original productions:
    • Children’s theater Ba-baaah and the Windigo: A whimsical Jamestown story told through the experiences of a young Indian girl and a larger-than-life cast of characters
    • Musical show Anniversary Voices: a spirited, high energy performance by a 16-member song and dance troupe
    • Journey of Destiny: 45 member cast performs a live historical production about the early years of Jamestown. Journey of Destiny includes music, dialogue, color and movement
    • Visions of Democracy:  traces the roots of American Democracy and the development of democratic ideals as viewed by three American presidents

Don't miss out on this very special moment in time . . . America's 400th Anniversary!
