Explore Indiana Archaeology Month at the Farmstead
September 27, 2014 |
Bloomington Restorations, Inc. invites you to the monthly opening of the Hinkle-Garton Farmstead on the last Saturday this month. September is Indiana Archaeology Month and marks the beginning of the next phase of work at the farmstead. Historic farmsteads can provide a wealth of archaeological information, providing details about the daily lives and farming practices of previous inhabitants, to the long-ago existence of Native Americans who once used the land. Inside the main house at the Hinkle-Garton Farmstead, an exhibit will feature the ongoing archaeological projects at the small chicken coop. Seasonal jams, jellies and the last of this year’s maple syrup will also be available for purchase. Outside visitors can learn about the archaeological work beginning around the smokehouse. The Farmstead is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is owned and maintained by Bloomington Restorations, Inc.
