Spokane Preservation Advocate's October Doing-It Project
October 25, 2014 |
In 1900, Irish immigrants Patrick and Kate Sarsfield purchased 50 acres of land on White Bluff Prairie, establishing one of the areas first dairies. The Marigold Dairy (named after their daughter Mary) was operated by the family for 49 years. We’ll be helping current owners Gary and Robin Congdon paint the farm’s original chicken house, built in 1939. We’ll also learn about their efforts to preserve this landmark property in a rapidly developing portion of Spokane County.
Built in 1905, the Sarsfield Farmhouse
is an excellent example of The Craftsman Style.
The exterior features unusually fine “liver rock”
basalt masonry held together with blind mortar.
We’ll take a brief tour of the home before the
painting project.
Snacks are provided and lunch will be served afterward. Invite your friends and neighbors!
Bring TOOLS, if you have them:
Ladders, paint brushes, paint clothes, gloves, clean pain buckets.
