July 21, 2015
District Designation to Infill Development: Placemaking at Pier 70, San Francisco
Historic Districts involve unique complexities and challenges, especially districts with developer interest and potential for infill development. This workshop will follow the process of historic districts that face the prospect of new development, from nomination and designation, to design guidelines, project planning, to financing. The
focus of this workshop will be the $250 million development in progress at Pier 70 in San Francisco.

You Will Examine…
- The survey, research and documentation process for a National Register Historic District nomination
- Historic integrity in the context of a large historic district with dozens of contributing resources
- Budget, scope, and process for a challenging, vacant historic district redevelopment project
- Compliance with legal requirements, including CEQA and local ballot initiatives

Speakers:
- Moderated by Charles Chase, Principal, Architectural Resources Group
- Nancy Goldenberg, LEED AP, Principal Architect / Architectural Historian, Carey & Co. Inc.
- Mark Paez, Port of San Francisco
- Carol Galante, Faculty Director of the Berkeley Program in Housing and Urban Policy
- Laura Crescimano, Principal, SITELAB urban studio
- Kelly Pretzer, Development Manager, Forest City
