Revolutionary Readers @ The Hermitage
July 1-29, 2015 |
When the Revolutionary War arrived in Andrew Jackson’s hometown of Waxhaw, South Carolina, he was a school boy of twelve. During the War, Jackson served as a messenger, scout, and fighter, leaving him with a lifelong commitment to the young nation he helped create. Come join a group of 10-13 year old readers for summer book club fun, and learn about the nation Jackson helped secure as a Revolutionary War soldier. This summer our adventures include stepping out of the future and into the Revolutionary War, watching Eli Whitney invent the cotton gin, parading Jackson’s victory at the Battle of New Orleans, smuggling treasure and secrets between patriots in the War of 1812, and celebrating the diversity of Tennessee’s Native American cultures!
