Poets in the Garden Program - featuring "Cool Women"

On Sunday, September 20th at 4pm Macculloch Hall Historical Museum (MHHM) will host their 17th annual “Poets in the Garden” program. The beautiful historic gardens will be the backdrop for a fun afternoon poetry performance. This year Cool Women return to the large lawn. A fan favorite when they performed here in 2006, you can expect the unexpected from Cool Women. Until the ensemble begins a performance, even the members themselves don’t know exactly which poems they’ll read. Like jazz musicians, they tune around a basic theme and riff off it, making each reading unique—by turns playful, analytic, joyous, elegiac. The audience shares in the atmosphere of risk, invention and surprise.
Cool Women is comprised of members from around New Jersey, including Eloise Bruce (Lawrenceville), Juditha Dowd (Sergeantsville), Joyce Lott (Rocky Hill), Lois Marie Harrod (Hopewell), Betty Lies (Montgomery), Judy Michaels (Hillsborough), Maxine Susman (Kingston), and Gretna Wilkinson (Eatontown).
Program tickets include admission to take part in a house tour through the period rooms of the museum, for visitors who sign up for a tour during the afternoon. Visitors can also enjoy the current museum exhibits prior to the program including the second floor “The Civil War Through the Eyes of Thomas Nast” and “Canals of New Jersey” exhibits as well as the first floor main gallery “Thomas Nast: Unknown Works and American Icons”.
Tickets for the program are Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4. Members and children under 5 are admitted free. The last guided tour is at 3pm and the galleries close at 4pm. The program begins at 4pm but tickets will remain on sale after the building closes. Attendees should please bring blankets or chairs, no seating is available. Only service animals permitted, no pets please. In the case of inclement weather the performance will be moved indoors (limited seating). The announcement will be made on the Museum’s voicemail and Facebook page the afternoon of the program.
Macculloch Hall Historical Museum preserves the history of the Macculloch-Miller families, the Morris area community, and the legacy of its founder W. Parsons Todd through its historic site, collections, exhibits, and educational and cultural programs. The Museum is open for house and exhibit tours on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. The last tour leaves at 3pm. Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4. Members and children under 5 are free. The gardens at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum are open Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and Sundays 1pm - 4pm unless posted otherwise.
