Architectural History / Architectural Restoration Field School
May 14-27, 2017 |
This two week program is an awareness of all the various disciplines related to the museum quality restoration of historic buildings. It is about the philosophy, techniques, and processes of research, investigation, restoration, and interpretation of this particular type of public history. Virginia's presidential house museums have always been models of methodology and several are visited in this program. The focus is on Jefferson's retreat, Poplar Forest, one of the most idealistic projects in the country. 10-12 people are selected from any discipline and can be professionals, students, or interested lay people. One hands-on component is an investigation of an historic building to learn the skills of physical investigation and documentation.
