Historic Porch Restoration

July 8-13, 2017
Historic Porch Restoration
Historic Porches Restoration is a fun and intense, six-day, hands-on learning experience. The porch being restored will be done in accordance with The Secretary of the Interiors Standards for Rehabilitation.

You will be part of a team of students performing the total restoration of the original two story porch on the circa-1840's salve house attached to the back of the lamb-Munger Mansion (The Belvedere School & Inn) in the Central Park National Historic District in Hannibal, Missouri.

This is a tuition-based class with a limit of 8 students. You will be working side-by-side all six days with instructor Bob Yapp. Bob is nationally recognized as one of the top experts in hand-on preservation training and has been involved in the restoration & replication of over 100 historic porches.

This will be an intense, learn-by-doing opportunity. You will learn: structural work; wood repair; tongue & groove flooring repair; balustrade (railings) replication; safe paint removal; balcony replication; stair building. Building codes and zoning issues will be addressed as well. At the end of the six days you will know from beginning to end how to restore an ailing historic porch. At the completion of the class each student will receive a "Certificate of Completion".

Homeowners, small contractors, preservation staff, preservation commission members, hp students and historic building owners will all benefit from this hands-on, traditional training event. All skill levels are encouraged to enroll. This is a hands-on workshop so you will be getting dirty. Bring work gloves, tool belt and eye protection.

Tuition for this six-day workshop is $595 and includes fresh ground morning coffee, snacks, beverages and lunch. Space is limited to eight students in each session and pre-registration is encouraged to retain a spot in the class. Affordable hotels as well as bed & breakfast inns are available for out of town students.

For more information or to pre-register call Bob Yapp, 217-474-6052 or yapperman@msn.com

July 8, 9, 10, 11, 12 & 13, 20178:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily.
