The Peña Adobe Historical Society Welcomes the Vacaville Police Department’s K-9 Unit

October 7, 2017
The Peña Adobe Historical Society Welcomes the Vacaville Police Department’s K-9 Unit
The Peña Adobe Historical Society welcomes the Vacaville Police Department’s K-9 Unit to the Peña Adobe Park in Vacaville, on Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The park is located at Pena Adobe Road in Vacaville’s rural southwest section just off of Interstate 80 to the left of the Lagoon Valley Park entrance.

Come see the historic Peña Adobe, one of the oldest structures in Solano County.  Dating back to 1842, the Adobe was once the home of the Juan Felipe Peña family, who with the Vaca family, settled in Vacaville over one hundred seventy five years
ago.  Stop in the adjacent Mowers-Goheen Museum, and see local artifacts that include Peña family children’s toys, ladies dresses from the turn of the century and a woolly mammoth bone!

This month’s guests include Vacaville’s newest K-9, Officer Russell, and Officer Chris Hill. Ever wonder what it would be like to meet a police K-9 or maybe you have met one before and want to say "Hi" again. K-9 Russell is a four year
old German Shepherd and has been a part of Vacaville Police Department for a
little over a year. Russell and his handler Officer Hill underwent extensive
training at the Sacramento Police Department’s K-9 Training Academy.  Come out to the Pena Adobe Park Open House on October 7th and meet Vacaville Police K-9 Russell and Officer Chris Hill.

Park docents will be available to lead tours the Peña Adobe, California historical landmark #534 & the Museum.  There is no entrance fee to the Adobe or
Museum.  A camera and binoculars are recommended as wildlife is often spotted in the park.  Bring a lunch and enjoy the picnic area, or take a nature walk on the grounds.

Volunteers from the Peña Adobe Historical Society open the Adobe and the Museum for visitors from 11:00am to 2:00pm the first Saturday of
the month, February thru December, or by appointment.  If you have an interest in local history call (707) 447-0518 or e-mail us at penaadobe@gmail.com and come join us at this gateway to Vacaville!
