Capital City Modern Tour

October 7, 2017

Docomomo WEWA and the City of Olympia Historic Preservation Program present a tour of Olympia's mid-century Modern architecture on Saturday, October 7, 2017, to celebrate Docomomo US Tour Day.

Tour Day is Docomomo US's annual national event that raises awareness of and appreciation for Modern design in the mid-20th century. All across the country, our friends and colleagues are producing great regional events in October.

As Washington's capital, Olympia is best known as the seat of state government, anchored by the beautiful capitol campus and the 1928 Legislative Building with its impressive dome. Our tour will focus on the Olympia's more recent architectural past.

On Tour Day, you'll:

- Discover Olympia's mid-century Modern architectural gems
- Learn about local history and architecture
- Tour six properties including the former City Hall, former Georgia-Pacific Plywood Headquarters, KGY radio station, and three private residences never before open to the public

WHEN: Saturday, October 7, 2017 from 1:00 to 4:00 pm (please arrive at 12:45 pm to check-in)

Welcome and presentation on local history and architecture (1:00 pm); self-guided driving tour begins (1:45 pm)

WHERE: Meet and check-in at the Leigh Creighton Justice Center / Tour Site #1 (former City Hall) - 900 Plum St SE, Olympia, WA 98501 (parking available on the street or in the Justice Center parking lot until 1:45 pm)

COST: $15 (plus $1.52 service fee) - Click here to purchase tickets online through Brown Paper Tickets by Friday, October 6. Tickets must be purchased online due to limited capacity. If there are tickets remaining, at-the-door sales the day of the event may be available.

Upon check-in, you'll receive a tour brochure/map--this is your ticket to all the tour properties. The tour is an open house format and self-guided.
Questions? Email us at info@docomomo-wewa.org

All tour fees go toward future programs for Docomomo WEWA, a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization.

We'd like to thank the property owners/hosts, volunteers, and the Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation for helping to make this event possible.

Docomomo WEWA's programs are supported in part by a 4Culture Preservation Sustained Support grant.
