Sacred Places Architectural Tour
October 7, 2017 |
Discover the beauty of 15 historic places of worship throughout Santa Monica at our Sacred Places Tour. These churches, chapels and synagogue offer a look into the history and cultural diversity of our City.
The Hispanic parish of Iglesia el Sermon del Monte comprises a community that extends beyond Santa Monica to other parts of Los Angeles. The church, affiliated, with the Pentecostal Assemblies of God, conducts Sunday bilingual services characterized by joyful music and song. During services, the auditorium is packed with Latino worshipers of all ages-- adults, teenagers and children-- singing in Spanish, swaying and dancing.
Originally established in a small storefront mission on Lincoln Blvd. in Venice, the church relocated in 1973 to this monumental Classical Revival / Gothic building, founded by the First Baptist Church in 1914. The interior features a sweeping semi-circular balcony, an altar placed at the opposite corner, and magnificent stained glass windows. These vintage windows, recently restored by Adamm’s Stained Glass, one of our tour sponsors, display unique translucent colors that are beautiful examples of their historic time.
Purchase your tickets today and explore this spectacular place of worship and many others. Advance tickets are $25 for Santa Monica Conservancy members and $30 for the public, with special discounts for members of the tour site congregations and the Santa Monica History Museum.
