The City of Manassas, Virginia is seeking a full-time Public Programs Coordinator to work at the Manassas Museum System. The Public Programs Coordinator oversees and implements all aspects of adult and youth programs including school services, living history events, advertising, and educational materials in a regional history museum and historic sites serving 40,000+ visitors annually. The position also oversees the booking of contract interpreters and manages two part-time interpretive positions and is responsible for the training and scheduling of volunteer docents that support the museum’s public program offerings.
Education/experience requirements: BA or MA (preferred) from an accredited four-year college or university in Museum Education, Museum Studies, or a related field. Two years of progressively responsible work in historic interpretation, museum education or related teaching experience, or any combination of education, training, and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the job. Knowledge of local/regional Civil War history preferred.
Job requirements: Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift and/or move 40 pounds. Must have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle. Occasional work on weekends and evenings with a required once a month on-call weekend duty for the museum system.
Salary: $34,986 - $46,696
