General Email Newsletter  -  Vol. III   Issue 6

Greetings Preservationists,

We are very excited to announce a number of new additions to the website, as well as provide an update on the various projects that are currently in the works.  After a few unavoidable delays, we are pleased to say that we are working hard on our long-awaited "Preservation Bookstore" and will be launching soon (see details below).  Also, we will now be featuring preservation-related job listings on our homepage of the website as well as in each email newsletter (see the first batch below).  Enjoy the last few weeks of Summer!

  • New Photo Galleries Added - Springfield, IL and Carson City, NV:
We are happy to announce the addition of new photo galleries for the historic cities of Springfield, Illinois and Carson City, Nevada.  Special thanks to Sharon Johnson at the Springfield Office of Planning & Economic Development and the Carson City Historic Resources Commission for submitting photos.  We currently have a backlog of over 40 historic places, so stayed tuned, as many more photos will be added over the coming months (including Syracuse, NY; Virginia City, NV; Spokane, WA; and Petaluma, CA).
  • Free Preservation Resource Guide Now Available:
As part of a presentation given by Tim Cannan, President of PreservationDirectory.com, at the Architectural Heritage Center's "Old House Fair", we are pleased to announce the availability of a free comprehensive resource guide for historic and cultural resource preservation.  The title of the resource guide is "Preservation Resources on the Web".  The comprehensive resource guide presents primary online resources in the field of historic and cultural resource preservation, with an emphasis on resources in Portland and the State of Oregon [NOTE: The presentation does cover national resources in depth, so this will be of interest to preservationists and historic homeowners everywhere].

To request a free copy of the presentation, please contact us at info@preservationdirectory.com or 503-223-4939 and we will send you a free copy.  We are only able to send electronic versions in pdf format, so please include your email address.

  • Preservation Bookstore Launching in Early September:
We are also pleased to announce that our long-awaited preservation bookstore is currently in development.  We began working on this section of our site in earnest last week, and are happy to announce that we are almost finished and ready to launch!  Thanks to all of your who have sent books and publications, and we will be contacting you shortly to confirm if your publication(s) will be featured in the online bookstore.  We have begun construction of the bookstore section, and expect a full launch in early September (an announcement will be included in next month's email newsletter).  The bookstore will feature titles in the fields of historic preservation, building restoration, downtown/mainstreet revitalization, historic real estate, historic theaters, and much more related to historic and cultural resource preservation.

Interested in listing your book/publication in the preservation bookstore?  If you would like your book to be considered for inclusion on our website, please send a copy or sample to PreservationDirectory.com, 7017 N. Alma Ave, Portland, OR 97203.  There is no fee to be listed, but we need to review the publications before placing them on our website.  If you have questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us at anytime.

  • Preservation Jobs!
Each month we will feature jobs and internships at historical societies, architecture firms, museums, etc. that have been posted to our "Preservation Blog" job directory (click on jobs below for more information).  Please note, we cannot guarantee the status of each job, so please contact the listing agency for more information:
