Growing in the Garden: Gourds and Chords

Winter, spring, summer and fall -- come visit the gardens at Macculloch Hall! “Growing in the Garden” is a year-round hands-on art program for 3 - 5 year olds and their caregivers using natural resources found in Macculloch Hall Historical Museum’s garden. The program includes a story, a walk in the garden, and an art project, and meets on the first and third Tuesday of each month with two session times available: 1:15 – 2 pm and 3:45 – 4:30 pm.
Gourds and Chords
How can a garden gourd or a plant pod create music? Children can learn how garden music is made on Tuesday, October 7th. Sing along to garden songs using dried gourds and pods as instruments to celebrate National “Carry a Tune” Week. Children will leave with a songbook of garden songs and a painted gourd or pod.
The Leaves are Leaving
Autumn means it’s time for cool nights and beautifully-colored leaves. Take time together to enjoy the autumn leaves. Children and their caregivers can visit the Museum on Tuesday, October 21st to hear a story and walk in the garden to collect autumn leaves in all their shapes, sizes, and colors. After studying leaf symmetry, children will use drawings to create a leaf collage to take home.
Space is limited and pre-registration is required. Pre-register by phone at (973) 538-2404 ext. 16 or by email cwinslow@maccullochhall.org. The cost for each program is $12 per pair (child and caregiver) for non-members and $8 per pair for members. There is a $5 discount for prepaid registration for four sessions. Macculloch Hall Historical Museum preserves the history of the Macculloch-Miller families, the Morris area community, and the legacy of its founder W. Parsons Todd through its historic site, collections, exhibits, and educational and cultural programs. The Museum is open for house and exhibit tours on Wednesdays, Thursdays & Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. The last tour leaves at 3pm. Adults $8; Seniors & Students $6; Children 6 – 12 $4. Members and children under 5 are free. The gardens at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum are open Monday to Friday 9am - 4pm and Sundays 1pm - 4pm unless posted otherwise.
