Lecture at Linden Place: SAMUEL POMEROY COLT: SHADOWED BY THE GUN

October 16, 2014
Lecture at Linden Place: SAMUEL POMEROY COLT: SHADOWED BY THE GUN
Samuel Pomeroy Colt is often confused with his uncle, Samuel Colt, famous for the Colt revolver and the iconic Colt Armory in Hartford, CT. But nephew ”Pom” Colt, whose home was Linden Place in Bristol, made a major impact in the political, financial and industrial world of Rhode Island during the Gilded Age. Hear how Colt – fatherless at 3 - managed to become a major politician, a wealthy banker and an innovative industrialist, all by the age of 35. This presentation will cover many chapters from Colt’s life – his family, his women, his homes and his playgrounds.

The lecture will be hosted on Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 PM inside the historic mansion parlors of Linden Place, which are filled with furnishings once used by Col. Samuel Pomeroy Colt himself.

The speaker, Claire Benson, is a board member of the Bristol Historical and Preservation Society and a member of Linden Place. She loves presenting talks on her favorite subject: Bristol history.

The event is co-sponsored by Linden Place and the Bristol Historical & Preservation Society. Admission is free for Linden Place & BHPS members and $5 for the public. Reservations are recommended as space is limited. For information please call: (401) 253-0390.
